Is 10pm Late for Dinner?

Greeks have their own sense of time; are late for most appointments and often use the motto: “Why do today what you can do tomorrow?” This easy-going pace of life places dinner, only naturally, at the very end of the day! Going out to dinner or eating in makes no difference as dinner is usually at 10:00 p.m. sometimes even later if it is a hot night.

If you worry it will take you some time to adapt please don’t, as all tavernas and restaurants serve all day, having their menus posted outside their door so one can check out the prices.

At dinner, waiters do not rush you to order or finish your meal. It is in their culture for Greeks to take their time and never rush, which is something similar to the Greek cuisine. It usually takes time to cook a traditional Greek meal but it is always worth the effort.

Gathering for meals is about socializing, laughing, drinking and enjoying the experience. We suggest you do the same.

With the Greeks you will learn to further enjoy food and life!
