Lesvos Travel Guide - Medical Care

There are four health care centers and one hospital on the island: The closest health care center to our accommodations is in Kalloni, approximately 30 minutes from Vafios and Molivos.

The Main hospital is in Mytilene; there is also a hospital in Antissa, Plomari and Polichnitos. Molivos has a health clinic and a general physician available 24 hours a day to provide medical care.

The Health clinic in Molivos, is located in Agora (Centre), close to the bakery. If you get a sunburn, get stung by a bee or anything else minor, you can go to one of the two pharmacies in Molivos. They are located at the beginning and the end of the Agora.

The pharmacists are very helpful and take their time answering your questions on health care issues. During the summer season you will find one of the two pharmacies open all day but note that it is common from many shops, including the pharmacies, to close between 3pm and 6pm, reopen after 5pm or so and remain open till about 10pm.

If you have a car you can also visit one of the pharmacies in Petra. There is a Health clinic in Petra which has an ambulance and three private doctors. You can find the clinic on the seafront, near the pharmacy which is situated before the town square. Should you need to pay a visit to a dentist, a private dentistry is available in Petra. The visiting hours are: 09:30-13:00.


If you are a European citizen there is a medical coverage form called E111 which covers medical expenditures abroad. Before traveling it is advisable to collect the form from the medical insurance office.
